current atmosphere

A few random thoughts based on conversations with people over the summer and fall -
a) There are clearly way more people in the firm who actually like/don't mind what they do. This is definitely a seismic shift from when i started. I am amongst the minority now, as opposed to a few years ago. People are shocked when you tell them you don't like this job. Definitely a weird feeling
b) People are definitely looking. And it's not looking good in the market unless you want to go into internal audit. That's discouraging.
c) The lack of raises has definitely depressed seniors and managers, making everyone reconsider their jobs
d) The firms are getting clients they shouldn't go after, under the hope that a few of them will eventually go public. I've told the partners on my clients that the ones I'm on are definitely not going to go public, and i'll be surprised if they become very successful. They need to be a little more conservative when comes to choosing clients.

Ever seen those Bill Engvall standups, with his "here's your sign" comedy....that's how I'm feeling right now. Shitty pay, shitty work, i don't know much about signs, but.....heeere's my sign.

Your probably better off not telling coworkers that you hate your job

On the contrary, all auditors at my office hates their job and its no secret. People are leaving in volumes. Humans in general needs some sort of motivation. The GFC is starting to look like some excuse not to give us pay rises/ promotions while our workload increase. Being on an annual salary with no overtime pay no matter how many hours we do per week is just wrong. The firm keeps on taking advantage of this, making people do overtime weekdays and also scheduling us on weekends. There should be some regulations around this because this has obviously impacted on our health.

doesn't really matter if you tell them you don't like it. What's the big deal? As long as you do your job well, who cares.
